Could you tell the readers a little about yourself?
My name is R.Brian Burkhardt. I am a funeral director in Illinois and Virginia.

Could you tell us a bit about your book ?
My Book was started in May 2007 and went to the publisher in the fall of 2007. It was published in May of 2008. The book was completed quickly while I was recovering from lung embolisms and a death scare. The work Rest in Peace Insiders tips to the Low Cost Less Stress Funeral walks one through the painful problem of the funeral process‐and informs people of their rights under the law. Mainly though the pages show people how to lower the price of any funeral. ed in May 2008

Many of the large funeral home operators seem to be focusing on selling funeral related services. Is this good or bad for consumers?
Generally large funeral home operators raise funeral expenses. These are not just the corporate guys. Families can be large funeral home operators as well. I have experienced both and they are not the friends of a lower cost funeral.

Do you think families should order flowers directly from funeral homes?
One should not do this if the family is looking to save on funeral cost. Often the funeral corporations come in with flowers at low funeral cost and then raise the cost of funeral flowers. After this sometimes they send free flowers to hospice and the family feels obligated to get the flowers from the corporate funeral home at higher cost.

Do you have a favorite plant or flower that you think is best to send to a funeral home?
A Lily is my favorite flower and it is on the cover of my book.

What are you currently working on and what can we expect in the future from you?
I blog daily on lower cost funerals on the web. It is my mission to help folks lower the cost of their funerals. I am working on a workbook for Rest in Peace. I am working also developing a green funeral book.
